Biophotonics, the application of photonics technology to biological sensing, imaging, regulating and manipulation, is currently experiencing rapid development in modern technology. Advances in biophotonics have allowed new concepts and modalities of optical sensing & imaging and light controlling and manipulation with readily accessible approaches. New optical methodologies with advanced optical system design and computational method enable more powerful imaging technologies such as fluorescence imaging, Raman imaging and phase quantitative imaging. The emerging techniques for the manipulation of living cells or biomolecules using optical forces as well as the controlling of nerve cell function with light have become indispensable tools for life science studies. This session fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together engineers with backgrounds in optics alongside chemists, biologists, and clinicians in a unified setting.
