Recent advances in photonics --- such as upconverting materials, photonic crystals, plasmonic materials, metamaterials, and harmonic generation materials --- have significantly boosted nanophotonics and biophotonics, especially in biological imaging, sensing, and nanoscale characterization. Developments in nanoparticles and probes, including near-infrared probes and plasmonic nanoparticles, have enabled new modalities for optical imaging and functional sensing through accessible approaches. Moreover, innovative imaging methodologies that combine advanced optical system design with computational techniques have paved the way for powerful technologies like super-resolution, Raman, and quantitative phase imaging. This session fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by uniting researchers from optics, physics, chemistry and biology.
