PIERS —— A global symposium committed to
advancing photonics and electromagnetics for the benefit of humanity.
In recent decades, the development of metamaterials, metasurfaces, and topological photonics has significantly revolutionized our ability to control and manipulate electromagnetic waves, driving unprecedented advancements in optical technologies. The session will delve into the forefront of research on metamaterials, metasurfaces and topological photonics, with a particular focus on their applications in manipulating light at the nanoscale. Participants will engage in discussions encompassing a broad spectrum of topics, including topological effects in photonic systems, robust wave propagation control, non-local and bound states in the continuum (BIC) effects in metasurfaces. The session will also address the practical implications of these advancements for next-generation optical devices, with specific focus on applications such as near-eye imaging systems, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies, and advanced holographic displays. Through these discussions, attendees will gain insights into the future directions of topological photonics and metasurface research, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with translating these innovations into real-world applications.
